AWL

Animals Without Limits (AWL) is an international, non-profit foundation
dedicated to assisting animals in crisis situations.
It is 100% volunteer operated by a pool of dedicated, caring people around the world.
Animals Without Limits is incorporated in North Carolina, USA, and is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation

Office in Stockholm, Sweden and Stuttgart, Germany
Originally formed in 1999 to help animals in war-ravaged areas, Animals Without Limits has broadened its perspective beyond war and animals, to include those that are dealing with the effects of disease, abandonment and chronic crisis. Since 2010, AWL has operated a Hospice for strays and older shelter dogs. AWL is a no-kill organization. Our hospice is a family-centered, medically supervised, and team-oriented service dedicated to preserving the animal by maintaining comfort and quality of life for the chronically or terminally ill patient. We do not undertake expensive treatment options or prolong suffering without a reasonable likelihood of returning the animal to good health and an appropriate quality of life. We strive to give dogs a less anxious and more comfortable passing when their time comes and their quality of life has deteriorated beyond redemption.

AWL Hospices are honored to have some of the most compassionate and empathetic veterinarians working with us for the common good of our animal clients.
Why do we do this? Because they all deserve to have help and love

Mia Mattsson-Mercer
Noted animal psychiatrist, author and lecturer Mia Mattsson-Mercer created the foundation in 1999, after attending a conference on the subject of strays, spaying and neutering in Sophia, Bulgaria. Since then, she and the foundation have worked in the Balkans, Europe, the Middle East and the USA in situations of hardship and suffering for animals. Her biggest passion are the senior dogs she encountered on the streets and in the shelters of Campania, Italy.

It is sadly true that we can’t save or help them all. But it is just as true that we can and must save and help those we are able to, here and now. That is what we are doing in Naples, Italy. It may not be a war zone, but there are animals that are in need of help, rescue or euthanasia. There are animals that are suffering because of trauma, chaos and an often less-than-friendly environment brought about by the society they find themselves in, much like in a war zone.
AWL will continue to work to address the problems of animals in need in a number of environments. They may not all be war zones, but to the animals caught in them, they are no less dire or dangerous.
